FRIDAY, Oct 24
Set your compasses north and east, my Sirens, and join me for a gorgeously autumnal weekend at one of America’s most tranquil, nourishing and lovely resorts. Conde Nast awarded it a top spa destination in 2024.
Arrive and gather at 1pm to exchange warm greetings and then let’s set out on a walking path from the Wild Rice resort to Bayfield, where a special afternoon of bookish delight awaits us at Honest Dog Books.
Kerri will interview a special guest author (the interview will air on MPR) and then we’ll share refreshments on the patio with plenty of time for questions and camaraderie. When we’ve browsed Honest Dog’s fantastic stacks, curated by bookstore owner-host, Julie Buckles, who is a kindred spirit in adventuresome reading, we’ll take our leave (but only until the next day!)
Sated with literary delightfulness, let’s head back for a wholesome and delicious dinner at Wild Rice. Afterwards, you are free to spend some time in Wild Rice’s rain shower and sauna or snuggle into bed with your teddy bear for an early night of reading.
Kerri’s favorite teddy bear, Cookie.
SATURDAY, Oct 25
Rise, rested and shining, my friends because we have such a fun day ahead! You are encouraged to join me as I start my day with a movement and wellness class.
Energized and glowing, let’s head for a healthy and filling brunch. Tuck a book to share with a fellow traveler and let’s hold our weekend book exchange either outdoors, under the trees, or in a private space created just for Siren Sojourns.
Once we’ve exchanged books, let’s discuss the first book from the reading list.
When we’re ready for some exercise, we’ll hit the trail into Bayfield where there will be time for treasure-hunting in the wonderful shops, walking along the Big Lake or grabbing a cup of tea in a Bayfield bakery and settling in for some cozy time with your favorite novel.
Meet Kerri at 3pm at Honest Dog Bookstore for another imaginative and inspiring book conversation and yummy snacks on the patio.
By dusk, we’ll be on our way back to Wild Rice to prepare for an evening meal that offers all of the goodness that autumn in northern Wisconsin has to offer.
SUNDAY, Oct 26
Awaken, slip into your workout wear and join Kerri for an exercise class to start the day.
When we’ve stretched our bodies into happy limberness, let’s change, check out of our rooms and gather for a convivial brunch.
When we’re finished, it’s time for a hike into the verdant forests that surround Bayfield. Bring along a favorite poem to declaim under the trees.
Afterwards, you are welcome to return for yet more gift and souvenir-hunting in town or point your vehicle west and head for home, with images of our spectacular weekend together guiding you all the way!
Queen Room in Treehouse Suite: (Each room is private for one person but joined by a communal gathering space.) $1460 per person.
I’m keeping this group small for my first Siren experience at Wild Rice, so space on this adventure is limited.
Books: Kindles and paperbacks are best to keep your luggage as light as possible.
Please bring a favorite poem to declaim in the woods.
